WDTV, ELKINS, WV – Nearly $1.5 million is heading to North Central West Virginia to help rural communities, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA).

Additionally, the Randolph County Development Authority is receiving $1.25 million to build an event center at the former Elkins Railyard site. The new Railyard Event Center will be 26,500 square feet and will include theater seating, a commercial kitchen and exhibition space for events.

“The funding announced today will have significant positive impact on the people living in these communities,” said USDA Rural Development West Virginia State Director Ryan Thorn. “These investments are a testament of Rural Development’s commitment under the Biden-Harris Administration of creating new opportunities from the bottom-up, and middle-out, while leaving no one or no community behind.”
